100 word Challenge

My uncle, best friend, and cousin have all played huge roles in shaping who I am. My uncle taught me about handling money wisely and being independent. He even helped me buy my first car, which was a game-changer for me. His advice on saving and staying out of debt has really stuck with me. My best friend has been a rock during tough times, helping me see things more clearly and stay positive. Her support has been like a guiding light. My cousin has always been there to give me advice and push me to take risks, she also showed me that I can handle any challenges and not give up. When I compare their influence to the North Shore Kaua‘i communities in "Kaiāulu," I see a lot of similarities. Both show a strong sense of community and support, which has helped me a lot in my life.

Who are individuals who have helped to influence your values and decisions? There are 3 individuals who have helped influence my values and decisions. Those people are my uncle, my cousin and my best friend. My Uncle has taught me so many things like save money, invest, be a team player, be consistent and also be independent. He helped me financially to the point where I was able to buy my first car and he also taught me to never be in debt or owe anyone anything. The next person is my best friend. If it wasn't for her I wouldn't be the person I am today. Her support and wisdom have made such an impact in my life. She's an amazing role model to not just me, but everyone around her. There was a day where I faced a particularly hard time in my life  and I remember feeling a lot of negative emotions and thinking a lot of negative thoughts. What are your hopes/enthusiasms, expectations, fears, confusions, etc. about this class? Or about what you think of as "English class" based on your prior experiences? What questions do you have for Lance and/or Lexi? My hopes for this class is to pass, it's my main goal. That's why my fear for this class is failing because English isn't my strongest or my most favorited subject, but I will do my best to keep up and ask questions when I need help. I am excited for this semester because I finally have classes with my friends and my classmates seem like pretty cool people, along with my teachers. I have no questions, but I will ask when I do.

What are ways that people (not just in the book, but in general) define "community"? Which community or communities do you belong to or identify yourself as a member of? Community means something you belong to or a particular characteristic thing you have in common. For example a community I belong to is the North Shore/Red Raider Community or even the Ko'olauloa Mauna (mountains). For anyone who's from the Northshore or knows about the Red Raiders is that we have so much pride in not only ourselves, but our community, school, culture and more. Another community I belong to is a church community called Hope Chapel Kahuku. I grew up in that church, I know everyone and everyone knows me. These communities I belong to help me feel connected and supported in different ways. So that's how I would define "community".
